“The red pill”
“What is real? How do you define real? If you’re talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then real is simply, electrical signals interpreted by your brain.” – The Matrix
As the internet has grown to a point that every group of people with common beliefs can easily find each other and share ideas and theories online, perpetuating there single sided views with each other and no one to challenge their thoughts and ideas. We have seen a substantial growth in fake news on every spectrum of every topic. It is a mind field to navigate the internet to find facts, but they can be found if you know how to look and what to look for. Never the less it is sometimes a difficult undertaking and not something most people are willing to do. After all it is just easier to share a story than do the research. Sometimes we even read stories hoping they were true, just to confirm our own beliefs. The internet is gray, facts are twisted everywhere. We know that, so that is why most of us take what we read online with a grain of salt unless we see it with our own eyes….
“You take the blue pill, the story ends here, you wake up and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill…and I’ll show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes.” -The Matrix
Well let’s take the red pill and see how much our eyes can deceive us.
Have you ever heard of a company called Crowds on demand (crowdsondemand.com)?
They are a company that was founded in 2012, and as the name implies hires people to attend events, rallies, and protests. I’m sure you have heard of the criagslist adds calling for people to attend protests. Well it’s not fake news, they are not isolated incidences, it’s not George Soros. It’s a company that will give you crowds for a price.
In a CBSN interview with Adam Swart the CEO of crowds on demand, he talked about how originally they began to help low level celebrities attract crowds. Eventually companies and politicians started calling their company to get crowds for events. Crowds on demand is not just a once in a while business, it is very lucrative, with over a million dollars in annual revenue. They claim to have hired many people for rallies, and demonstrations, political affiliation is not relevant. Adam Swart also claims they have done business with over 40% of the fortune 500 list.
Lies for profit have been created all around us, and at this point it seems there is no way to even tell if what we are seeing is real. It truly is beginning to seem like we are in the Matrix. It seems the politicians with the most money WILL shape events around us to attempt to push their agenda, and sway votes to their side. We live in a country where we are free to say what we want, go where we want, do what we want, and vote how we want. If the world around you is is a lie, the events, and news are lies, how are the decisions you make even your own? Do we live in a free country? Or are we as blind as the people trapped in North Korea.
To be completely free or to do something of your own free will, is essential that you could have acted otherwise. If you cannot avoid acting in a particular way, than your actions are not free. While it is generally understood that human beings have the ability to think and act freely as rational and moral agents, the common causal laws by which all human activities and responses are governed are incontestable. It is this conflict that provides the real problem of how we are free.
